The Project Story
The objective of this product development project was to create a clean-label, plant-based Energy Bites that combine convenience, nutrition, and indulgent taste in a ready-to-eat functional snack. The client sought a formulation made with wholesome ingredients such as oats, dates, sweet potato, and natural protein sources while eliminating refined sugar, dairy, and gluten. At Adhrysa Lifescience, our formulation scientists optimized the recipe to deliver soft texture, natural sweetness, balanced nutrition, and excellent shelf stability, creating an on-the-go snack that aligns with the growing demand for healthy snacking, functional foods, and plant-based nutrition.
The Challenge
Developing nutrient-rich energy bites without refined sugar or artificial binders required careful ingredient optimization to achieve the ideal texture and structural integrity. The formulation had to prevent stickiness, moisture migration, and oil separation while maintaining a pleasant bite and consistent flavour throughout its shelf life. Another critical challenge was balancing natural sweetness with protein-rich ingredients without compromising taste, ensuring the product remained commercially scalable, clean label, and consumer-friendly across multiple flavour variants.
Formulation Highlights
The final formulation delivered soft, nutrient-dense Energy Bites with a naturally satisfying taste, excellent mouthfeel, and consistent texture. The optimized recipe combines plant-based ingredients, dietary fibre, and natural energy sources to support sustained nutrition while remaining free from gluten, dairy, and refined sugar. The formulation offers excellent processing stability, extended shelf life, and compatibility with multiple flavour profiles, making it ideal for premium retail and functional nutrition brands. The finished product successfully meets the market demand for plant-based energy bites, healthy snack development, clean-label functional foods, protein-rich snacks, gluten-free formulations, and convenient on-the-go nutrition.
