The Project Story
As consumer demand shifts toward healthier functional beverages, our client partnered with Adhrysa Lifescience to create an innovative range of Protein Soda that combines the refreshing experience of sparkling soft drinks with the nutritional benefits of high-quality protein. The vision was to develop a clear, carbonated protein beverage containing 10 g of protein per serving, zero sugar, and naturally inspired fruit flavours without compromising on taste, clarity, or carbonation.
The product portfolio was developed in vibrant flavour profiles including Cherry Lime, Lemon Ginger, Blueberry Acai, Watermelon Mint, and Tropical Pineapple. Adhrysa Lifescience led the complete product innovation process—from protein selection and carbonation optimization to flavour development, stability evaluation, shelf-life validation, pilot production, and commercial scale-up. The result is a next-generation functional beverage that bridges the gap between sports nutrition and everyday refreshment.
The Challenge
Formulating a high-protein carbonated beverage presented unique scientific and processing challenges. Traditional protein ingredients often create haze, sedimentation, off-notes, excessive foaming, and reduced carbonation, making it difficult to achieve the appearance and drinking experience of a premium sparkling beverage.
Extensive research was undertaken to identify highly compatible protein systems capable of maintaining clarity while remaining stable under acidic and carbonated conditions. Each fruit flavour required independent optimization to balance sweetness, acidity, aroma release, and protein compatibility without negatively affecting carbonation retention.
Additional challenges included minimizing protein precipitation during storage, controlling foam formation during filling, maintaining flavour integrity over shelf life, and validating packaging compatibility under pressurized conditions. Multiple laboratory trials and pilot-scale evaluations were conducted to ensure consistent product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
